Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Many torches have been put up along the path between the State Palace and Merdeka Palace to lead the parade held on Monday evening to mark the commemoration of Nuzulul Quran (Quran Revelations).

President Joko Widodo led the parade accompanied by Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Minister/State Secretary Pratikno, followed by 300 orphans and disabled children invited to the event.

The parade was held after Widodo broke the fast and conducted evening prayers along with the children who came from Jakarta and the vicinity regions of Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

The parade started at around 7pm and led to Baiturrahim mosque in the palace compound where they would conduct Isya and Tarawih prayers.

To mark the Nuzulul Quran, the presidential palace had arranged a number of programs, including Quran recital competition participated by orphan and disabled children from care homes in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

The winners were given bicycles and placards by the minister of religious affairs, the minister/state secretary, and the minister of social affairs.

Widodo also used the opportunity to receive Islamic clerics and national and international recital winners.(*)
