Bogor, W. Java (ANTARA News) - Some seven thousand people have registered to visit Bogor Palace on the opening day, Eva Suminar, head of promotion of the Bogor city office on culture, tourism, and creative economy, stated here, Tuesday.

The palace opening day event was part of the governments annual program to celebrate the anniversary of Bogor City, West Java Province.

Similar to the previous celebrations, this years event will call on the public to learn more about the history of Bogor Palace.

According to Suminar, the registration will remain open until July 28, while the palace opening day event will be held for five days on July 24-28.

Not only the locals from Bogor and some neighboring cities, such as Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, several foreign tourists from the Netherlands have also registered to visit the palace.

"We opened three registration sites, including at the Kemuning Gading Office and the citys Tourism Bureau Office, as well as by phone," Suminar noted.

"The organizer received phone calls from visitors in Palembang City in South Sumatra Province and Bangka Belitung Province," she remarked.

Suminar stated that on the palace opening day, the city tourism office has targeted to attract 20 thousand visitors, or an increase of 10 percent as compared to last year.

"Since this program was free, we are optimistic that many people would be interested in visiting Bogor Palace," Suminar reiterated.

As one of the countrys six presidential palaces, the Bogor palace has hosted some important meetings and conferences, including the initial meeting of the Asia-Africa Conference in 1954, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and the Bogor Declaration during the APEC conference in 1994.

Apart from being a historical attraction, the palace also offers a scenic view, and the visitors can enjoy the cool weather there.(*)
