"As a parent, I advise you to pay attention to good housewifery as a way to lead a happily married life. Both of you have also received advice from the elders," Widodo told his daughter during the Bataknese traditional wedding ceremony held here on Saturday.
During the ceremony, Nasution`s mother, Ade Hanifah Siregar, also offered pearls of wisdom to the couple.
Widodo called on the bride and groom to respect each other and fulfill their responsibility towards one another, both in social and religious life.
"Affection in housewifery brings peace, unity, and goodness for all of us," the president noted.
Widodo also read out a Bataknese poem to the couple that signified maintaining politeness, demonstrating sincerity, helping each other, being patient, as well as being good to all.
The president also expressed gratitude to the family of Nasution for having organized the Bataknese welcome ceremony for the bride.
"I believe our brotherhood will continue and bring blessings for the people and the country," Widodo said.
On the occasion, Widodo and First Lady Iriana also handed a "ulos" fabric to Ayu and Nasution as a symbol of the new king and queen during the Bataknese wedding ceremony.
During his visit to North Sumatra Province, the president also held working visits to several areas, such as for inaugurating the new Silangit International Airport in North Tapanuli, distributing social assistance cards to people of the low-income group, and handing out education assistance cards in Langkat District.
Earlier, on November 8, 2017, Widodo had held a traditional Javanese marriage ceremony for his daughter in Solo City of Central Java Province.
The wedding ceremony, held by Nasution`s family in Medan, is a welcome procession to Ayu`s family in Bataknese tradition.
