Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has opened the 11th Festival of Keraton Nusantara or Archipelago Palace at "Istana Maimun" in the North Sumatra provincial city of Medan.

The Istana Maimun (Maimun Palace) is the palace of Deli Sultanate which was built in 1888 by Sultan Mahmud Al Rashid.

A few months ago, President Jokowi also attended the closing ceremony of the Keraton Nusantara Festival in Cirebon, West Java.

"This is a form of my appreciation, my love, pride of us all in all customs and cultural heritage of our nation that are indeed very rich, and very diverse," Jokowi said.

The President then told about "manortor" dance in the procession in traditional Mandailing feast which was called Mata Ni Horja.

"I perform the Manortor dance before a number of kings of various clans. All of us, become more and more amazed by the cultural richness we have because it also contained symbolic messages, very meaningful philosophies that can be the basis of ethics in our daily lives," the president remarked.

According to Jokowi, each procession contained the message, philosophy of mutual respect, reminded to always pay attention to manners, courtesy, invited to continue to maintain togetherness and strengthen the ropes of brotherhood.

Opening of the Festival was also attended by among others governor of North Sumatra Tengku Erry Nuradi.
