"This is because of three aspects, such as infrastructure support, technology, and globalization," President Widodo stated while opening the CEO Forum here on Wednesday.
Indonesia`s economy has developed, with good macroeconomic conditions and investment grade rating, the president remarked.
"International airports have been operating in Labuhan Bajo, Toba Lake, and Belitung," the president noted.
The government has established optical cable networks that offer high-speed internet, both 3G and 4G.
"People now need Wi-Fi connections to access social media. Digital economy in the region has improved. It has opened up opportunities in the region," the president stated.
"The era of digitalization has changed consumption patterns, from shopping for goods to shopping for experiences, tourism, and entertainment," he remarked.
In terms of globalization, Jokowi noted that the internet and social media have driven globalization where there is no territorial boundary.
The president said the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in 2017 was estimated to increase 25 percent as compared to 2016, while investment in the tourism sector grew 35 percent as compared to 2016.
The government continues to develop various forms of infrastructure in the regions.
"For the next step, the government will continue to develop human resources. The curriculum of elementary, junior, and senior high schools must be improved," the president affirmed.
The CEO Forum was also attended by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and President Director of PLN Sofyan Basir.
