Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Outgoing Military Chief General Gatot Nurmantyo stated here on Monday that his successor is expected to be able to cope with more complex challenges while fulfilling his duties in future.

"Please do not ask me, but it is the president who will use the person replacing me to lead the Indonesian military by taking into account the future challenges in terms of duties," he told journalists.

Nurmantyo remarked in the presence of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Fadli Zon during a press conference that President Widodo had suggested to the parliament that Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto lead the military.

Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, currently chief of the Air Force Chief of Staff, is the only candidate for the Indonesian military`s top post.

Zon said he had received President Widodo`s official letter proposing Hadi`s appointment.

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesman Johan Budi said the head of state would replace General Nurmantyo as since November 2017 he had entered a period of preparing for retirement in March 2018.
