The organizing committee has allocated budget for 10 thousand athletes from Asian nations, but if their number reaches 12 thousand, the budget will swell, Eris Harryanto said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) has anticipated swelling of the budget for the implementation of Asian Games 2018, depending on the number of participants.

Eris Harryanto, secretary general of INASGOC, said here on Monday that increases in hotel tariff might also cause additional cost.

"We will open registration period on Jan 7, 2018. This registration is to estimate the number of participating teams," he remarked.

The organizing committee has allocated budget for 10 thousand athletes from Asian nations.

"But if their number reaches 12 thousand, the budget will swell," he added.

"We estimate the cost for opening and closing ceremonies at US$50-60 million," he noted.

INASGOC has received a state budget amounting to Rp2 trillion in 2017, plus Rp1.1 trillion, from sponsors.

Initially, INASGOC demanded a budget worth more than Rp8 trillion for the ASIAN Games, which will be participated in by 45 Asian countries.

The amount was cut to Rp5.6 trillion, comprising Rp4.5 trillion from the state budget and Rp1.1 trillion from sponsors.

INASGOC is trying to absorb up to 95 percent of this year`s budget from the total Rp2 trillion allocated by the government.

The 18th Asian Games will be held in Jakarta and Palembang, South Sumatra Province, from Aug 18 to Sept 2, 2018. ***4***
