Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta police are getting ready to secure the "Bela Palestina" rally to be held at Monas Square, Sunday, following the unilateral decision by the United States to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono, Head of Public Relations Division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Command, said here, Friday, that some 20,000 police personnel have been readied to secure the rally.

He affirmed the organizer had already coordinated with the police with regard to its preparation.

People will start with dawn prayers at Istiqlal Mosque nearby, before marching to Monas to convey their stance until 12.00 hours, he remarked.

Argo stated the police had received notification about the plan of the Palestinian supporters from the organizer.

Ma`ruf Amin, general chairman of the Indonesian Council of Ulemas (MUI), has called on all Muslims to participate in the `1712` action, named after the date of the event to support the Palestinian people.

Amin even called on other religious followers, community elements and mass organizations to support the rally.

The action serves as a protest against the policy of US President Donald Trump.

Religious affairs minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin has expressed support to the rally.

"I support the plan, which I think carries some positive elements, such as the joint prayers to be held during the action. That is important," he noted.

He said he would conduct prayers but would not participate in the rally that would be attended by a number of religious figures.

He stressed Indonesia would continue to support the struggle of the Palestinian people and defend the rights of the people who are oppressed.

He called on all participants to be orderly and peaceful during the rally.

"They must avoid provocation and insults and prioritize prayers so that their aspirations for Palestine can be fulfilled," he emphasized.
