Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The First Indonesia-India Security Dialogue (IISD-1) in New Delhi, India, on Tuesday discussed increased cooperation in the field of law and security between both countries, Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Wiranto stated.

"This meeting is a follow-up of several agreements between Indonesia and India for the enhancement of cooperation between the two countries," Wiranto noted in his written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The minister remarked that the IISD-1 was a follow-up of President Joko Widodo's visit to India on December 11, 2017, as stated in the "India-Indonesia Joint Statement during the State Visit of the President of Indonesia to India."

It was also a follow-up to the "India-Indonesia Eminent Persons' Group" meeting in New Delhi in December 2016 as stated in the "Vision Statement 2025."

"This first IISD is a ministerial meeting in the field of law and security between Indonesia and India to discuss the improvement in cooperation between the two countries in the field of law and security," the minister remarked.

Wiranto added that IISD-1 had become part of the two countries' efforts to enhance bilateral strategic partnership, especially for handling legal and security issues, including those related to terrorism and radicalism in the region.

"We are grateful that this meeting has been very constructive and has resulted in concrete steps that will be followed up by the state, in terms of counterterrorism, maritime security, cybersecurity, and defense cooperation, and the possibility of cooperation through the exchange of clerics, scholars, and Muslim students between the two countries," Wiranto stated.

This meeting will be a permanent agenda of the Indonesia-India cooperation, and the next meeting will be held in Indonesia.

Present at the meeting was a delegation from Indonesia comprising representatives from ministries and institutions under the supervision of the Coordinating Ministry for Politics, Law, and Security Affairs.
