Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) grilled former chief executive of the nation`s flag carrier Garuda Indonesia Emirsyah Satar on alleged graft in the procurement of aircraft engines from Airbus S.A.S and Rolls-Royce P.L.C .

"Today Emirsyah Satar is questioned as a suspect," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said when asked for confirmation on Thursday.

KPK has named two suspects in the graft case Emirsyah Satar and Soektino Soedarjo, who is chief commissioner of PT Mugi Rekso Abadi (MRA), a media and life style company.

Emirsyah Satar was charged with accepting 1.2 million euros and US$180,000 and goods worth US$2 million in bribe from Rolls Royce in the acquisition of 50 units of Airbus SAS aircraft engine for PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk in 2005-2014 .

The bribe was given to Emirsyah Sata via Soetikno Soedarjo as a "beneficial owner" from Connaught International Pte. Ltd which is based in Singapore.

Based on the investigations by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) the British court already punished Rolls Royce with a fine of 671 million pound sterlings for bribery practices in various other countries including Malaysia, Thailand, China, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Angola.

KPK received report of the alleged bribery involving Emirsyah Satar from SFO and Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB)of Singapore when investigating bribery involving Rolls Royce in a number of countries. SFO and CPIB gave confirmation of the report with proofs to KPK .

KPK through CPIB and SFO already blocked a number of bank accounts and confiscated assets of Emirsyah abroad.

Emirsyah if found guilty will face a jail term of 4 year to 20 years with a fine of up to Rp1 billion; and Soetikno Soedarjo is facing a jail term of up to 5 years with a fine of up to Rp250 million.
