Hanoi (ANTARA News) - Vietnam will continue to intensify mutually beneficial cooperation with Indonesia, Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang said.

At a meeting with Chief of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD) Oesman Sapta at the Vietnamese Presidential Palace in Hanoi on Thursday, Tran Dai Quang warmly welcomed the existing good relations between the two countries.

He also extended an invitation to Indonesian President Joko Widodo to visit Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the DPD chief said the two countries have long understood each other and have a chance to enhance cooperation particularly in the economic field.

"I think they (Vietnam) understand Indonesia very much and we also understand Vietnam. Our trade relations (with Vietnam) are also quite good. Last year trade between the two nations rose to US$10 billion. They highly expect to enhance their relations with us," Sapta said.

While in Vietnam, the DPD chief and entourage also met with Secretary General of the Vietnamese Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong at the latter`s office.

Sapta visited Vietnam to reciprocate Nguyen Phu Trong`s visit to Indonesia in August last year.

Nguyen Phu Trong praised the DPD chief for the reciprocal visit.

He said he was highly impressed when visiting Indonesia. "I had good impression when I visited Indonesia," he said.

The DPD chief, along with Vice Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Fachri Hamzah and a number of DPD and DPR members are visiting Vietnam to attend the 26th Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum.
