Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The House of Representatives (DPR) has called on the government to effectively implement the presidential decree on the prevention and elimination of corruption.

"The House Leadership has appealed to the government to effectively implement Presidential Decree No. 55 of 2012 on National Strategy for Prevention and Elimination of Corruption," House Speaker Bambang Soesatyo stated in Jakarta on Monday.

The presidential decree outlines the government`s efforts to fight corruption in the short term for the 2012-2014 period and long term for the 2012-2025 period.

Hence, it is of utmost importance for the government to effectively implement the presidential decree owing to the fact that several regional heads have committed to fighting corruption during the 2004-2018 period.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), in its latest red-handed operation, detained East Java`s Jombang District Head Mrs Nyono Suhardi on Saturday (Feb 3).

Soesatyo also urged the government to call on regional government heads to implement e-government, e-planning, e-budgeting, e-procurement, e-payment, and e-asset.

"These should be implemented by the regional government, so that all matters could be brought well under control," the House speaker stated.

The KPK suspected that the Jombang District head had committed a corruption crime by receiving gratification in return for facilitating the licensing process and assigning officials to certain posts in the Jombang regional government, KPK Deputy Chairman Laode M. Syarif had claimed on Sunday.
