Tanah Datar, W Sumatra (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited the basic village infrastructure development site, carried out using a labor-intensive system, amid heavy rain.

Based on Antara`s observation in Nagari Sungai Tarap of Tanah Datar sub-district on Thursday, the president arrived on site at 6 p.m.

Despite the heavy rain, Jokowi still left the presidential vehicle and inspected the development of irrigation system in the rice field.

Furthermore, Jokowi also received explanation on the project from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing.

A number of workers appeared to be excited to have been visited by the president.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadi Muljono accompanied the president during the visit to the middle of the rice field.

After reviewing the irrigation system development, he then headed downtown to spend the night in one of the hotels in the city.

The president had carried out working visits to three sub-districts in West Sumatra on Thursday, including Solok, Sawahlunto, and Tanah Datar.

In Solok, the president handed out 1,500 pieces of the Family Hope Program cards and 1,173 Smart Indonesia cards to the people.

Meanwhile, in Sawahlunto, he also handed out land certificate to the heir of Djamaluddin Adinegoro, who was an Indonesian press pioneer.

The government planned to build an Adinegoro Museum to remember his merit to the country, as well as knowledge on journalism.

During the journey from the Dharmasraya sub-district at 7 a.m. to Solok and Sawahlunto, the president and First Lady Iriana distributed notebooks for children.
