Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is pleased that Novel Baswedan, senior commissioner of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), had recovered and planned to return after undergoing treatment in a Singaporean hospital for some 10 months.

"We are pleased. Alhamdulillah. Mr Novel Baswedan has recovered and will return home. I think if he could work again in the KPK, we should be grateful," President Jokowi noted at the State Palace, here, Tuesday.

Febri Diansyah, spokesman of the KPK, remarked that Baswedan is expected to return to Jakarta on Thursday (Feb 22). Three weeks later, he will have to return to Singapore for a medical check-up of his injured eyes.

On April 11, 2017, Baswedan was fatally attacked while heading home after performing Fajr, or the Dawn prayer, at a mosque nearby when two motorcyclists hurled acid on his face that injured his eyes, particularly the left eye. He was treated in a Singapore hospital.

Baswedan, a 41-year-old retired police officer, had joined the anti-graft agency in 2007 and since then has been frequently terrorized and attacked.

"I will always push the National Police chief to solve the case and catch the perpetrators," President Jokowi emphasized.

Several parties, including Baswedan, have called for the establishment of a joint fact-finding team to investigate the acid attack case.

President Jokowi noted that the National Police had informed of the progress in the investigation, and if the police gives up, the government will take another step.

On August 14, 2017, the police had sent a team to question Baswedan in Singapore.

The police had arrested several people but later released them, as there was no proof of their involvement in the attack.
