Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - The Public Works and Housing Ministry has halted all elevated road projects, following an accident at the Bekasi-Cawang-Kampung Melayu (Becakayu) toll road early on Tuesday.

According to the Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, the suspension of the projects is important for a thorough evaluation to determine the cause of the accident, adding that 14 construction accidents have happened in the past two years.

"That is why we have stopped it first to know the cause," he noted in the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta on Tuesday.

A girder pole formwork on the Becakayu toll road collapsed in Kebon Nanas, East Jakarta, on Tuesday morning, injuring seven workers. All of the victims are currently undergoing treatment at UKI Hospital in Cawang, East Jakarta.

Hadimuljono claimed that the construction accidents, such as one that occurred in Becakayu toll road, are not due to speeding up of the work but more likely due to disciplinary factors or "human error."

He added that the speed of construction of infrastructure projects in Indonesia still cannot be compared with the speed of workmanship in other countries, such as Malaysia, the Philippines, or China.

Construction of infrastructure projects in China in one year, he said, could reach 4 thousand kilometers, while in Indonesia, only 1 thousand kilometers could be reached in one year.

"The speed of our construction work is still nothing compared to Malaysia, the Philippines, and especially China," Hadimuljono noted.

He also ensured that every contractor that partners with the government to work on heavy elevated construction project is an expert in such field.

As the contractor of Becakayu toll road, state-owned construction company Waskita Karya has revealed that the wet concrete during the pier head foundry has caused the bekisting pier head to fall.

Waskita has also coordinated with the authorities to deal with this issue. Currently, it is being investigated internally and by the police to obtain data and information about the event. The results are expected to be out within 24 hours.

The 11-kilometer Becakayu Toll Road is included in the National Strategic Project and is being carried out by Waskita since 2014, with a contract value of Rp7.23 trillion (US$532.9 billion).
