Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has invited people to be aware of diseases triggered by the improvement in living standards and economic conditions that have changed the lifestyle of Indonesians.

"An increase in economy growth and the number of middle class people has triggered the improvement of hygiene and nutrition, as well as health. Meanwhile, the change in "lifestyle" has caused illnesses, such as diabetes," Jokowi stated here on Tuesday.

The president inaugurated the medicine factory in Delta Silicon industrial area of Cikarang District, West Java Province.

He highlighted several diseases caused by the changes in lifestyle, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer.

The president added that non-infectious diseases require more medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the economic growth that improved the people`s prosperity has also improved the ability of consumers.

He added that people were looking for potent medicines to treat infectious diseases.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Nila F Moeloek remarked that lifestyle diseases have began to infect the people in Indonesia.

"The total number of diabetes patients in Indonesia is very high. We need medicines for ourselves. We expect our society to be aware of their health to avoid diabetes, "she remarked.

The president inaugurated a bio-pharmacy raw material manufacturing plant in Cikarang, West Java Province, owned by PT Kalbio Global Medika, a subsidiary of PT Kalbe Farma Tbk.

The establishment of the factory is an investment that will boost production capability.

In terms of technological innovation, the plant will produce biotechnology-based pharmaceutical products.
