"To be more sustainable, it is important to create a new and more inclusive model of economic growth," Lagarde noted at the high-level international conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to her, Indonesia and Southeast Asian countries now have stable economic growth and policies to reduce disparity levels in the last three decades.
However, more efforts must be made, considering the growing middle class in the region, which urgently needs adequate jobs.
Therefore, managing the transition is an important part to overcome the problem, one of them through the use of technology to improve work productivity.
Lagarde remarked that another thing is to improve the quality of human resources by boosting the educational system and providing decent job opportunities for women.
Support is also needed for policies that can increase a better environment for investment by deregulation and fight against corruption.
"Such a situation is expected to encourage the growth and development of innovative creative industries as well as creation of jobs in the economic sector," Lagarde reiterated.
Another priority to make the economy more inclusive and sustainable is to consistently continue investing in high-quality infrastructure sectors, she revealed.
