Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - Labor Minister Hanif Dhakiri said the country`s unemployment rate is now the lowest in almost two decades of the history of government reformation.

Hanif said unemployment rate has reduced to 5.5 percent based on data until early 2018.

"This is the lowest since the country reformed its government administration," he said here on Tuesday.

He attributed the success in reducing unemployment to partly rapid growth of the education sector, saying the education sector has succeeded in creating skilled workers competitive facing expatriates.

He said, however, what has been achieved is not yet maximum as the target set by government is to reduce unemployment rate to around 5 percent.

Therefore, the labor ministry will continue coordination with other related agencies to turn out high quality workers.

He said growing informatics sector and on line sector also have considerable contribution to creating jobs such as on line transport system .

He said regardless of the controversy over on line transport system the fact is the sector has significantly provide jobs reducing unemployment.

"This is a national issue . High unemployment is a problem to solved together," he said.

Another factor significant in reducing unemployment is growing creative economy involving small and medium enterprises, he said.

"Creative business has contributed to cutting unemployment in the country," he said.

Creative business is an effective alternative, he said, adding many people still focus on seeking jobs and other open business creating jobs.

The government, there is serious in developing creative business as the sector would provide many jobs, he said, added, apart from creating jobs and reduce unemployment, expanding creative business would attract investment.
