Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - All vehicles originating from Timor Leste will be charged insurance fee this year while entering the Indonesian territory, mainly in Belu District, East Nusa Tenggara, state-owned insurance company PT Jasa Raharja stated.

"Starting 2018, an insurance fee will be imposed on two- and four-wheeler vehicles, originating from Timor Leste, mainly when they enter the cross-border posts in the province, including Mota`ain," Arie Wisnus Handoyo, the insurance company`s chief of East Nusa Tenggara Office, informed Antara in Kupang, Friday.

Handoyo noted that the insurance fee is being imposed as a means to take precautionary measures against traffic accidents and protect the nationals of Timor Leste when they enter Indonesia.

The insurance fee will also ensure that Indonesian citizens will be protected from any accidents that may occur from foreigners` vehicles.

He stressed that the number of vehicles from Timor Leste crossing into Indonesia had been relatively high.

Hence, the state-owned insurance company, along with the Traffic Division of East Nusa Tenggara Police, has prepared a special room at the cross-border post in Motaain, Belu District, to provide services on the payment of the fee.

He explained that Jasa Raharja had contacted the National Border Management Authority on insurance services to be offered at the cross-border post.

"We will deploy some personnel at the cross-border post of Indonesia and Timor Leste. Some police officers will be assigned to support Jasa Raharja this year," he emphasized.

Indonesia has two cross-border posts, with Timor Leste in Motaain, Belu District, and Motamasin in Malaka District. Both posts are situated in Timor Island, East Nusa Tenggara.

Under the administration of President Joko Widodo, some cross-border posts, including in Motaain and Motamasin, have been extensively renovated.

Apart from the recent renovation, the president has planned to build markets along with some public facilities, such as parks, at the cross-border posts in Indonesia.
