Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Government has replaced Chief Executive of the energy company PT Pertamina Elia Massa Manik at an extraordinary shareholders` meeting of the country`s largest state company here on Friday.

Deputy for Mining, Strategic Industry and Media of the State Enterprise Ministry Fajar Harry Sampurno said there are a number of reasons for the dismissal of the Board of Directors of PT Pertamina

"The process was conducted together with inputs from the Board of Commissioners," Fajar said.

The first reason was related to the recent process of making Pertamina a holding company for state-owned oil and gas companies, he said, adding the government wants to strengthen and speed up the implementation.

The second reason was the change in the management of Processing and Petrochemical mega project of Pertamina and other officials of the company.

There are also other factors based on observation and evaluation of the board of commissioners of Pertamina, he said.

He said the Board of Commissioners want Pertamina to immediately carry out study on the impact of increase in cost and oil prices.

The recent oil leak causing pollution in the sea off Balikpapan, East Kalimantan contributed to Elia`s dismissal, he said.

The shareholders named a caretaker Nicke Widyawati, who is chairman of the oil and gas holding implementation.

A number of members of the board of director were also replaced such as the Processing Director, finance Director, and Marketing Director and Corporate Marketing Director.
