"The visitors were very enthusiastic to see the beauty of the various Batik patterns from Indonesia, which has been designated as a global cultural heritage by the UNESCO," the Embassy in Canberra said in a statement, Sunday.
The Embassy grounds, that had been turned into the event`s venue, was packed with enthusiastic visitors, which made up of the general public of Australia, as well diplomats and wives of Ambassadors of other countries, including South Korea, Jordan, Argentina, Japan, the United States, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Timer Leste and Brunei Darussalam.
Furthermore, Romanian Ambassador Nineta Barbulescu brought her husband and child along and ensured that they did not miss the Batik show.
Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Y Kristiarto S Legowo, who was accompanied by Deputy Ambassador M I Derry Arman and a number of other officials were also present in the function.
Dozens of pieces from the collection of Riana Batik was put together in such fashion that they appear luxurious, dynamic and lavish, at the same time appearing to be wearable for any occasion.
Aside from the Batik exhibition, visitors were entertained by traditional dance performances, including the Golek Sulun Dayung and Wirayudha dances.
In this Batik fashion show, the guests who were present were presented a collection of batik clothes from designer Riana Kusuma Astuti, and all of the pieces were exhibited attractively by a number of models, majority of whom were students and Indonesian nationals who live in the city of Canberra. There were also a young doctor from Jakarta.
The day exhibition and Batik fashion show was held in the bid to promote batik as creative work of the nation`s children in various circles in Australia as well as to introduce them to the meaning of Kartini Day.
Through this exhibition, Batik exports to Australia are expected to increase.
Indonesia`s textile product exports to Australia in the period of January to February 2018 was amounted to 39.6 million US dollars, an increase of 6.6 percent compared to the same period last year amounted to 37.2 million US dollars.
