"Let us together awaken the public that terrorism and radicalism have become our common enemies," the president noted in his speech while attending the closing ceremony of the Extraordinary Congress of Justice and Indonesian Unity Party in Cipayung, Jakarta.
According to the president, the community along with law enforcement officers must jointly protect the society, so that citizens are not influenced by radicalism.
Jokowi recounted while witnessing the scenes of several suicide bomb attacks at a church in Surabaya on Sunday.
The incidents also involved children aged nine, 12, 15, and 18.
The president also invited participants at the event to pray for the souls of the victims and the families left behind.
"Let us pray for our brothers and sisters, who fell victims to the suicide bombings in Surabaya, Sidoarjo, and other places," the president emphasized.
Suicide bomb attacks occurred in three churches in Surabaya on Sunday, while another bomb attack at the gate of the Surabaya Police Headquarters was also reported on Monday morning.
