Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Officers of the Riau Police shot dead four suspected terrorists, who had attacked the Riau Police Headquarters on Wednesday at around 9 a.m. local time.

"The terrorists attacked police personnel by using a vehicle and sharp weapons," Head of the Public Relations Division of the Indonesian Police Headquarters Inspector General Police Setyo Wasisto stated on Wednesday.

Wasisto said that a group of people, riding a white car, attacked the Riau Provincial Police.

During the attack, police officers shot dead four suspected terrorists, while another man fled and was later arrested.

As a result of the action, an officer of the Riau Police died, while two other police personnel and a journalist of a national television were injured.

Based on the chronology of the incident, on Wednesday, at 9 a.m. local time, a Toyota Avanza car entered the Riau Police Headquarters through the building`s gate.

A man got out of the car and chased and attacked a policeman using a samurai sword. The attacker was successfully paralyzed with a shot by the police personnel.

Two men then got out of the car and tried to attack other police officers, but the attackers were shot dead. The car crashed into the police members, but it was stopped and secured.
