Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA News) - A joint patrol of police and military officers intensified guard during Sunday mass and services at churches in Surabaya, following suicide bomb attacks that were occurred last week.

"We have deployed a joint patrol officers to assure protection of the people at church," the East Java Police chief, Pol. Insp. Gen. Machfud Arifin said on the sidelines of the inspection in Surabaya, Sunday.

In several churches, a fully armed Police Mobile Brigade officers were seen outside the building, with their counterparts from military.

Not only deploying the security officers, they also guarded inside the churches, while roads in front of the buildings were opened only for the service participants.

Furthermore, before entering the church, the security officers also performed a thorough check to worshipers and their belongings.

On May 13-14, five suicide bombers blasted three churches in Surabaya and the nearby Sidoarjo District. Besides churches, a bomb also exploded at the Surabaya Police Headquarters main gate on Monday (May 14).

East Java Police revealed that 10 people were injured due to a bomb at the headquarters, Frans Barung Mangera, the police`s spokesperson confirmed.

The 10 victims include four police personnel and six civilians, currently being treated at Bhayangkara Hospital of East Java Police.

"The four police personnel are Second Police Brigadier M Maufan, Chief Police Brigadier Rendra, Second Police Inspector Adjutant Umar, and First Police Brigadier Dimas Indra," Mangera said, while adding that the six civilians were identified as Atik Budi Setia Rahayu, Raden Aidi Ramadhan, Ari Hartono, Ainur Rofiq, Ratih Atri Rahma, and Eli Hamidah.
