Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has set up a selection committee to choose a new secretary-general following the dismissal of Raden Bimo Gunung Abdul Kadir over lacklustre performance.

"The selection committee tasked with the appointing KPK secretary-general has been formed and has begun holding meetings," said the KPK spokesman, Febri Diansyah, here on Monday

The selection committee comprised internal and external members. "The committee consists of internal elements, but most of them are external elements," he said.

The internal element is the KPK chief, Agus Rahardjo, and the external elements include the former KPK commissioner, Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas, and sociologist Imam Prasodjo, Sumiyati, and Aloysius Budi Santoso.

The committee would submit a list of candidates to the President, Joko Widodo. "There will be two to three selected candidates and the names will be submitted to the president to choose and appoint one of them as KPK secretary-general. Under the law, the president has to appoint and dismiss the KPK secretary-general," said Diansyah.

The KPK Deputy for Eradication, Pahala Nainggolan, is currently acting KPK secretary-general.
