Tanjung, S Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - PT Pertamina EP of Aset 5 Lapangan Tanjung, in the district of Tabalong, South Kalimantan, has developed 8 new oil/gas wells to make up for the shortfall in output after abandoning oil wells in the Tepian field.

Field Manager PT Pertamina EP of Aset 5 Lapangan Tanjung Andri Haribowo said the opening of new oil/gas wells in the Warukin and Kambitin fields is to offset a production declining after oil wells in Tepian had stopped production.

"The eight new wells are as a compensation from PT Adaro Indonesia for the stoppage of production in Tepian," Andre said here on Monday.

The 20 wells in the Tepian field have been taken over by coal mining PT Adaro Indonesia for coal mining project.

Data at Pertamina showed that eight of 20 oil wells in Tepian are still productive and the rest are suspended or shut down.

The new eight wells in the sub-district of Pugaan are operational but production is still below the target of 150 barrels per day or 50 barrels per day, Andre said.

Although production still falling short of target exploitation in the sub-district of Pugaan continues as the project involved large fund.

The oil and gas production target set by Pertamina from the eight wells is only around 3,300 barrels per day this year or less than 4,000 barrel per day.
