Abdulbar M. Mansoer, the president director of Indonesian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) as the management of Mandalika resort, remarked here on Thursday that his side is making preparation to welcome the great marathon competition, initiated by the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI).
"We are preparing some of the pre-existing paths for the event that will be held on September 23, 2018 at Mandalika in Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara," Abdulbar said.
Targeted to be followed by 10,000 runners, it will be the biggest race event that is expected to be able to promote the Mandalika as a new tourist attraction in Indonesia besides Bali.
Covering 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, 21 kilometers, and 42 kilometers races, the marathon contest will claim a total prize of Rp10 billion.
The competition will involve participants from students of 18 years and over, the general public, Indonesian running communities, TNI and Police members, masters of over 45 years, members of the armed forces and police from friendly countries, national athletes and international athletes.
"We have done several preparatory activities including meetings that involve various related parties," he said.
He ensured that the event was fully supported by the NTB Provincial Government, the Ministry of SOEs, Angkasa Pura, Police, and the Department of Transportation.
In the future, Abdulbar expects more international scale events to be held in the Mandalika complex so the area is becoming more popular as a favorite destination.
