"We must maintain peace and national unity as best as we can, since in the near future, we will organize several international events, such as the 2018 Asian Games, IMF Annual Meeting in Bali, and the 2019 Presidential Elections that need our unity as a nation," Minister Wiranto stated while opening a workshop on "Maintaining Peace: Learning from Resolutions of Conflict and Peace in Maluku and North Maluku for United, Sovereign, Adjust and Prosperous Indonesia," here, Tuesday.
The workshop was organized by the secretary general of the National Resilience Council (Wantannas).
"Hence, on behalf of the president, I have given inputs, so this workshop can yield smart ideas for maintaining peace and national unity.
Among speakers of the two-day workshop were Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla, Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, Chief of the National Police General Titi Karnavian, Social Affairs Minister Idrus Marham, Research, Technology and Higher Education Minister Dikri M. Nasir, and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan.
Peace has returned to Maluku where Muslims and Christians live in harmony, he noted.
He expressed hope that no conflict would arise in the 2019 presidential and legislative elections.
