"A total of 1.4 million certificates have been issued across the country," Djalil stated at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The 1.4 million certification achievement has reached about 20 percent of the target set at seven million certificates of land until the end of 2018.
Sofyan admitted that he was optimistic that the target of certification in 2018 could be achieved. "We have no worries about the target," he noted.
Certificates of land title is a proof of land right to guarantee legal certainty. The government is currently implementing land registration throughout Indonesia outside the forest area.
The benefits of the land certificate include providing legal certainty of land rights, which can be used to get business capital from banks.
In Indonesia, there should be 126 million plots of land registered at the Ministry of ATR/BPN. Up to 2016, there were only 46 million registered plots of land.
The government, since 2017, began to massively conduct land certification. In 2019, the government set a target to provide certificates for nine million plots of land per year, while in 2020-2025, the target to be certified is set at 10 million plots per year.
If the target is reached, land registration in Indonesia can be completed within nine years, after mass certification of land was commenced in 2017.
However, in 2017, BPN only managed to issue a certificate of 4.2 million plots of land from the target set at five million parcels of land.
