Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The construction of the Palembang-Inderalaya (Palindra) toll road in South Sumatra is now 100 percent completed and is now awaiting inauguration, the toll road project manager Hasan Turcahyo said.

Turcahyo stated here on Monday that state-owned toll road construction company PT Hutama Karya (HK) has ascertained that the turnpike construction has been 100 percent completed and is ready for operation to serve the public.

"We will put the toll road into operation soon. It is the authority of the Public Works and Public Housing Minister to decide on the inauguration.

He revealed that the feasibility test of the road had been done on July 20, 2018.

Previously, the 22-kilometer toll road had been functionally opened in the face of post-fasting Eid-el Fitr 2018 festivities from June 8 until June 22, 2018.

Hasan added that currently, HK has put the 7-kilometer section I of the Palindra toll road, namely the Palembang - Pemulutan section, into operation.

"The toll road project, which is targeted to be fully operational before the 2018 Asian Games, is also planned to be equipped with a rest area," he noted.

South Sumatra province has long awaited the presence of toll infrastructure, such as those in the provinces of Java, to spur the region`s economic growth.

The plan to develop the national strategic project of Trans-Sumatera Toll Road, from Aceh in the western tip of Sumatra to Lampung in eastern part of the island, has created new passion in South Sumatra, which has since long needed smooth transportation between districts and provinces.
