Fulvia remarked here on Tuesday that UCLG-ASPAC is cooperating with numerous regional governments in Indonesia in connection with the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
"For Surabaya, we have implemented projects for the development of public spaces in the areas of Kedinding, Keputih and Ketandan, while in South Asia, we run a sanitation project," he noted.
Hence, Fulvia remarked that Surabaya has been elected to host the 7th UCLG-ASPAC international congress on September 11-15, 2018, to bring together regional leaders or key development actors in the Asia-Pacific countries with strong economic growth.
"This year, the congress is themed `Innovation Development for Sustainable Cities` in accordance with the global context and the needs of every local government," he stated.
This congress aims to strengthen the commitment and capacity of local leaders in creating better connectivity to achieve SDGs.
Fulvia explained that UCLG is a recognized association of local government organizations of the United Nations (UN) based in Barcelona.
This association aims to help facilitate the local government to perform its functions in developing the region, such as training programs for local governments, especially in the Asia Pacific.
Furthermore, he added that as an organization, his side has stewardship of regularly holding half-yearly and biennial meetings.
To this end, he remarked that some 800 people from countries in the Asia Pacific are attending the 7th UCLG-ASPAC international congress this time in Surabaya.
"The area of discussion is vast, and we welcome participants not only from Asia Pacific but also globally," Fulvia added.
