Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Commissioner General Ari Dono Sukmanto was officially named deputy Indonesia Police chief here on Friday, replacing Commissioner General Syafruddin, who was recently appointed as minister of administrative reform.

"This afternoon, we appointed a new deputy Indonesia Police chief and at the same time handed over the post of chief of crime investigation department. The two posts are strategic police posts," Indonesia Police chief General Tito Karnavian said at the inauguration.

Karnavian said several names had been submitted to the Wanjakti (office in charge of determining positions and rankings of officers to be positioned as Wakapolri, deputy Indonesia Police chief).

He said there were many reasons he finally chose Sukmanto as the number two man in the police force. "His leadership will help me as the police chief," he said.

Sukmanto`s position as chief of the crime investigation department was taken by Inspector General Arief Sulistyanto, who was formerly the police chief`s assistant for human resources development.
