Nur Mahmudi, the first president of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), has been named a suspect in alleged corruption in the Jalan Nangka Tapos expansion project in Depok, West Java.
KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said here on Tuesday the KPK unit of coordination and supervision has received information about the start of further investigation of the case.
"In line with the article of 50 of the KPK Law, the role of the anti graft agency in the case is coordination if needed. KPK would help in the event of bottleneck in the investigation. So far there has been no hindrance," Febri said.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman of KPK Laode M Syarif said every corruption case handled by other law enforcement agencies including police and prosecution office is reported to KPK after the announcement of the start of investigation (SPDP) has been issued.
"It is ruled by the law and there has been a MoU between KPK, the Prosecution Office and Police. Thereby, automatically KPK will supervise the process of further investigation into the case involving the former mayor of Depok," Syarif said here on Saturday.
Depok police investigators already named Nur Mahmudi Ismail a suspect in the corruption case in the Jalan Nangka Tapos road project.
The status of Nur Mahmudi has become a suspect after the result of interrogations, head of the public relations department of the Jakarta police Sr.Com. Argo Yuwono here on Tuesday.
Argo said police had also named suspect the former secretary of Depok city administration under his initial HP in the same case.
He said Nur Mahmudi was named suspect by Depok police on 20 August, 2018.
Police already questioned 30 witnesses including Nur Mahmudi since initial investigations started in November 2017.
If found guilty, Nur Mahmudi would be the second President of PKS involved in corruption. In 2013 the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced PKS chairman Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq to 16 years in prison for graft and money laundering.
