"It is important that Pancasila must continue to be refreshed because with its foundation, legal education can have a spiritual, moral and ethical basis," Sultan remarked at the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) here on Wednesday.
At the "National Dialogue: Indonesia Merdeka, Civilized Indonesia", Sultan said that Pancasila would allow religious values to become a driving force for the nation`s progress.
"In line with nationalism, we oppose all forms of exploitation in law practice, because the Fair and Civilized Humanity teaches respect for human dignity and guarantees human rights," the Yogyakarta governor said.
According to him, unity originating from Pancasila also opposes domination and discrimination in the legislative system. The principle of popular sovereignty clearly opposes all forms of totalitarian action in law practice.
"Hence, science and law practice can also become a vehicle to create a just society guided by the principles of Social Justice for All Indonesians," Sultan said.
In the meantime, UII Rector Fathul Wahid remarked that unity was an important capital of the Indonesian nation to advance, and to be equal and surpass other nations.
"It is the unity that makes us a great nation," the UII rector noted. *** 4 ***
