Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - The International Council of Women Board of Directors have finalized all preparations necessary for the election of new Board members, a vice president of the ICW said here on Wednesday.

The International Council of Women (ICW) will be voting its new President, Vice Presidents and Board members during the 35th ICW General Assembly in Yogyakarta, from September 13 to 18, Vice President of the ICW Hean Bee Wee said.

Speaking to Antara after the Board of Directors meeting here, she said that the preparations have been carried out ahead of the General Assembly.

"All preparations were done before hand, the nominations and all that. We have organized and finalize the ballot papers. We also go through all the nominations and check them again and make sure that they are alright," she said.

The ICW has also allocated specific time for the candidates to present themselves and the voting itself is scheduled to take place on September 15 in the Grand Inna Malioboro hotel in Yogyakarta, where the General Assembly activities are carried out.

Wee revealed that this time around, there are more candidates for the vice presidential posts compared to the previous years.

"This is partly because in the last three years, the leadership has done well and people see that there is a need and everyone wants to participate because we are actually achieving the women`s agenda a lot more and have higher profile," she explained.

Aside from finalizing the election, the ICW Board of Directors meeting also discussed budget reports from the last three years.

Thousands of celebrated woman figures gather in the 35th General Assembly of the International Council of Women, the women organization directly affiliated with the United Nations, as well as the National Gathering of One Thousand Indonesian Women`s Organization, being held in Grand Inna Hotel in Malioboro, Yogyakarta, from September 12 to 20.

The event is held by the ICW and the Indonesian Women Congress or Kowani, in cooperation with the Ministry of State Owned Enterprises, in which 35 state owned companies are involved in supporting the event, including Antara News Agency.

The 35th ICW General Assembly will bear the theme "Transforming Society Through Women`s Empowerment" and will be opened by President of the Council Junsook Kim on September 13.
