Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia Asian Para Games 2018 Organizing Committee (INAPGOC) will rope in people with disabilities to provide transportation service through three-wheelers for the disabled during the multi-sport event scheduled in Jakarta on Oct 6-13.

The committee`s Director for Transportation Adrianto Djokosoetono noted here on Saturday that owners of the three-wheelers will serve disabled visitors, especially those on wheelchairs, who plan to watch the games at the Bung Karno Stadium.

"The Asian Para Games is a multi-sport event for people with disabilities, so it will not only involve athletes and officials. However, we will invite all disabled persons to take an active part in the event, including the visitors," Adrianto noted in a statement.

So far, 40 three-wheelers, with special modification, have been registered; 30 from Jakarta; and 10 from Yogyakarta.

"Our friends in Yogyakarta already have a special service of motor-taxi for disabled people. We invited them to Jakarta to participate (in the Asian Para Games)," he added.

The three-wheelers will operate in the stadium complex since the opening of the event until its closing on Oct 13.

"Disabled visitors will have special parking lots in the stadium complex. There will be special shuttle for those looking to use the specially-modified vehicle service to travel to the sports venues. This facility is free for visitors," Adrianto elaborated.

Mia, a three-wheeler owner, said her participation in the event as a transportation operator for disabled persons is also aimed at promoting the modified vehicle to the public.

"This is because now we do not have a special parking lot for this type of vehicle. We cannot enter the parking lot for cars, while this is too big to use the parking lot for motorbikes," she pointed out.

As many as 2,886 athletes from 41 countries will take part in the Asian Para Games 2018. They will compete in 18 sports branches.

The event will become a qualification stage for athletes to compete in the Paralympics 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.
