Among the issues that the general assembly`s participants thought to be importantly responded were violence against women and general inequality.
At a discussion meeting chaired by ICW President Jungsook Kim and attended by five ICW`s newly elected vice presidents, some new points were also raised.
In the document entitled "ICW-CIF Standing Committee`s Plans of 2018-2021", there are three main sections, namely Women`s Status, Sustainable Development, and Public Welfare.
The points in the action plan are derived from seven points of a new resolution adopted at the afternoon session.
During the meeting which lasted about two hours, several delegates looked active in giving input to the ICW board of directors.
The issues of common concerns that they raised were, among others, related to discrimination and violence, protection of marriage for girls, promotion of cultural exchange programs, and understanding of positive aging.
The last point was related to the presence of elderly women. In this case, how they got attention while they were able to play a positive role in society but they did not become a burden.
ICW President Jungsook Kim said these points represent common concerns of many countries.
The newly-elected vice presidents of the ICW who attended the session were Linda C. Liu (Taiwan), Doris Bingley (Malta), Jamal Hermes Ghibril (Lebanon), Fatma Fatos Inal (Turkey), and Giwo Rubianto Wiyogo (Indonesia ).
The 35th ICW General Assembly was attended by 169 leaders of the women`s organization.
It is held along with the National Gathering of One Thousand Indonesian Women`s Organizations, which attracted 1,000 leaders of women`s organizations and 2,050 participants from across Indonesia.
The 35th General Assembly of ICW was held in coincidence with the commemoration of the 130th anniversary of ICW, established in Washington D.C. on March 25, 1888.
Affiliated with the United Nations, the ICW has been struggling for empowering women across the globe.
Taking place at Grand Inna Malioboro Hotel, Yogyakarta, the event is supported by 35 state-owned enterprises, including the Indonesia News Agency ANTARA.
