"I told candidates from Perindo about, in essence, the importance of reaching out to the people, approaching them door to door to get public trust and sympathy," he said in his directives to the meeting of Perindo candidates seeking parliamentary seats through the election scheduled along with a presidential election in April next year.
Jokowi as he is also popularly called has so far been known for his approach to the people through "impromptu visits" or "blusukan" in local terms meaning going to every corner of places to reach out the people.
He said that was one of his ways to win the hearts of the people so that he who was nobody before was later elected as Solo city mayor in 2004.
He said his experience as a businessman had given him a lot of lessons about product marketing.
He said political marketing was like product marketing covering differentiation, branding, and trust building.
"It is similar. Building public trust, drawing sympathy. Well, that`s what I have done," he said.
Perindo chairman Hari Tanoesudibyo who is also known as a big businessman said that President Jokowi has given a key to make a success.
"He has told about his way up to be a city mayor. I think it is one of good advice. He personally implemented it. It is really worth it," the MNC Group chairman said.
President Jokowi was accompanied by chief of presidential staff Moeldoko on the occasion.
