Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The government of Palembang city in South Sumatra is mapping three locations for the development of a new city in accordance with directives from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).

Palembang City Research and Development Head of Planning and Development, Harrey Hadi, remarked here on Wednesday that the city government has ensured that the physical construction the new city would begin in 2019 in three locations, namely Plaju, Seberang Ulu I, and Jakabaring.

"To date, we are still coordinating with the Ministry of PUPR for the physical development of the new city that we hope will start next year," Hadi stated.

He remarked that the development of the new city is a central government program, so the budget that will be used will also come from the State Budget (APBN).

"Regarding the size of the budget, we cannot confirm yet. However, this fund is adjusted to the existing development, while the Palembang City Government itself prepares the land / development area," he noted.

Regarding this, the city government made sure it was ready, because it was divided into delineation.

"The delineation is clear, namely in Plaju, Seberang Ulu I, and Jakabaring," he added.

The development of these three regions into a new city will be directed to the three concepts, although it also cannot yet ascertain in detail what the master plan development will be like.

"The plan is that the three new urban areas will be themed, sport, tourism, and heritage," he explained.

He remarked that the certainty of the development of this new city has been included in the development plan of the City of Palembang for the next five years.
