Jakarta, Sept 30 (ANTARA News) - Social Affairs Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita monitors the handling of disaster emergency response after the earthquake and tsunami that hit Donggala and Palu, Central Sulawesi, on Friday.

The Ministry of Social Affairs in its written statement received by Antara in Jakarta on Sunday (Sept 30) said Social Affairs Minister Kartasasmita used Air Force A-7308 plane to fly to Palu on Saturday from Jakarta Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base with Coordinating Minister for Political and Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Rudiantara, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, and Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Hadi Tjahjanto.

Director General of Social Protection and Security Harry Hikmat from the Ministry of Social Affairs also accompanied Social Minister Kartasasmita.

Arriving in Palu on the same day the group headed to the Central Sulawesi Regional Police Headquarters and held a coordination meeting with the Central Sulawesi Regional Police Chief and staff. It is followed by a coordination meeting with the Governor of Central Sulawesi, the Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo and the Central Sulawesi Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPBD) which was held in a tent.

On Sunday, Social Minister returned to Palu to continue monitoring the progress of disaster management.

Accompanied by the Director General of Social Protection and Social Security of the Ministry of Social Affairs Harry Hikmat.

According to the minister, children are one of four vulnerable groups that must get protection shortly after the disaster. The other three are pregnant women, people with disabilities and the elderly.

Currently the Ministry of Social Affairs has deployed 779 personnel from Tagana (social organization active in disaster mitigation services) from Central Sulawesi. It was assisted by Tagana mobilization from outside the Province of Central Sulawesi, namely Gorontalo and South Sulawesi.
The temporary number of Tagana personnel from outside Central Sulawesi is 139 people and will continue to increase, including from East Java and Jakarta. "Tagana and Assistance Companions in the surrounding areas which have not been affected by the disaster," said Harry. *** 4 ***
