The epicenter of the quake which struck at 11.29 a.m. local time was located in the sea some 30 kilometers northeast of West Aceh at a depth of 10 kilometers, the agency said.
"I didn`t feel the quake. But then I was informed of the quake," said Edi Syah Putra, a resident of Meulaboh, capital of West Aceh district.
The quake was not significant enough to cause a tsunami.
On Monday night (Oct 15), a magnitude 5.4 earthquake also rocked the district, prompting local residents to rush outdoors.
