"This forum will discuss global issue on security and humanitarian issues," Governor of Lemhannas, Lieutenant General (Ret.) Agus Widjojo, said during a press conference here on Wednesday.
According to Widjojo, the Second JGF is held in response to a number of global issues, namely China`s Belt Road Initiatives (BRI), the US - China trade war, and the weakening of the European Union marked by the exit of Britain (Brexit).
"We present the world`s geopolitical experts who will discuss the world?s geopolitical changes," he stated.
The JGF is a sharing session among world geopolitical experts to analyze the regional situation in the world. This forum had been initiated by the National Resilience Institute of the Republic of Indonesia since 2016.
According to him, the institute is looking for inputs on Indonesia`s current geopolitics to determine actions on how to achieve Indonesia`s national interests in the future.
The results of JGF II / 2018 will be a reference for determining Indonesia`s strategy in the future and placing Indonesia in the position to achieve its national interests in the next 100 years.
The JGF II / 2018 strategic forum is expected to be useful for speakers and participants to discuss the world geopolitical issues.
"Geopolitics, which is interpreted as living space, is a central issue for all countries in the world, including Indonesia, in setting up its position in the geopolitics of the world," he remarked.
Meanwhile, the former Indonesian Ambassador of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Dorodjatun Kuntjoro Jakti, explained that JGF was also aimed at mapping out the world`s major crisis which is now beginning to appear.
"Lemhanas sees the potential for disarray due to this situation," the Emeritus Professor of the University of Indonesia (UI) added.
The topics to be discussed at the forum include issues on political, economic, and global peace and security.
