KNKT Flight Accident Investigator Ony Soerjo Wibowo stated at a press conference here on Friday that the FDR, one of the black boxes, which recorded flight information, such as speed, altitude, and reading of aircraft avionics, was analyzed by the KNKT team.
"We have a laboratory since 2009. The process of dismantling to read the FDR data has been carried out in our own country, in Indonesia. We have the facilities," Wibowo remarked.
Although the KNKT had received an offer from the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), as the country of origin of the Boeing aircraft manufacturing company, Wibowo stressed that Indonesia had a facility capable of extracting FDR and CVR data and information.
This was proven by KNKT`s track record of having successfully downloaded information of several data "recorders" in addition to helping neighboring countries, such as Myanmar and Malaysia, including for military purposes.
The KNKT had successfully uncovered the reason behind the crash of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft in 2012 and AirAsia flight QZ 8501 in 2014.
According to Wibowo, the KNKT was able to interpret and translate all parameters contained in the FDR. However, if a more detailed explanation is needed for some parameters, then the assistance of foreign countries can be sought.
"For instance, the Lion air plane was made in the United States, and the country is well-versed with the parameters. If there is something we do not know, we need an explanation," he noted.
The KNKT Recorder Team also analyzed and confirmed that the "Crash Survivable Memory Unit" (CSMU), found on Thursday, was part of the Lion Air FDR registration number PK-LQP or JT 610 flight.
The KNKT Recorder Team, witnessed by representatives of NTSB and Singapore Transport Safety Investigation Bureau, conducted the CSMU cleaning and recovery process at the KNKT laboratory.
