"First, I want to see progress in motorcycle production. Our national production has now reached 6.5 million, and some 600 thousand of them are exported. This is good," the president noted at the Indonesia Motorcycle Show 2018 held in the Jakarta Convention Center on Saturday.
The president, or Jokowi as he is popularly known, visited the venue in the company of Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung and Chief of the Presidential Staff Office Moeldoko.
"I asked them which ones have been exported. It is a good thing to export in such quantity," he remarked.
Jokowi has also emphasized the need to increase local content in the country`s automotive products.
"Secondly, it is important to see that the local content has surpassed 90 percent. Some have reached 97 percent. I think this is very good. Furthermore, we can penetrate new markets," the president stated.
Indonesian motorcycle products have been exported to 45 countries, he added.
President Jokowi is known to be a motorcycle lover. He has a golden chopper that he had ridden on his visit to Sukabumi, West Java.
Jokowi also has a street-tracker-style green motorbike customized by a local workshop Katros Garage.
"I bought it three weeks ago. However, it is not yet finished," the president added.
