The Chinese investor expressed interest during a visit to the Indonesian booth at the China International Travel Mart (CITM), since he had experience in sending Chinese tourists to Lombok Island, Mauludiah informed Antara here on Monday.
This year`s CITM, organized for promoting tourism markets and sharing ideas and concepts of traveling in Asia, was held in Shanghai, China`s largest city and business hub, on Nov 16-19.
The Chinese investor admitted to having his own tourist market in Anhui Province, Mauludiah remarked without elaborating on the profile of the investor.
Lombok Island, located next to Bali Island, is a magnet for both domestic and foreign tourists, as it not only offers an opportunity to trek Mount Rinjani but also has scenic beaches as well as several fishing and diving spots.
Indonesia has set up a pavilion at the CITM, officially opened by a Chinese government official and attended by Tourism Minister Arief Yahya and Indonesian Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun.
The event held significance for Indonesia`s endeavor to attract more Chinese tourists due to Shanghai`s significant contribution of Chinese tourist arrivals in the archipelago over the past few years, she pointed out.
The Indonesian Tourism Ministry recorded that a total of two million Chinese travelers had visited the country`s popular tourist destinations, including Bali Island and the North Sulawesi city of Manado.
In the aftermath of deadly earthquakes that recently hit Lombok Island, the Tourism Ministry has revised its 2018 target of attracting 2.7-3 million Chinese tourists.
"However, we do not set a specific target from our participation in the CITM. We are, of course, keen to achieve the target that the government has set," she remarked, adding that during the event, Indonesia offered tourism packages for diving and golf enthusiasts.
Indonesia`s participation was also aimed at regaining the confidence of Chinese visitors regarding the country`s tourism industry after several natural disasters hit certain parts of the archipelago this year, she added.
