Lampung (ANTARA News) - Construction of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road, which partially connects Bakauheuni, the southern part of Lampung, and Palembang, South Sumatra, will boost local economic growth, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asserted.

"We hope that construction of this toll road would enhance competitiveness and increase local economic growth," according to the president here, Friday.

Jokowi said, the freeway will be integrated with several special economic zones that are being built.

The president noted that construction of the Trans Sumatra highway will be completed by 2024.

Construction of the toll road will also be integrated with other transportation infrastructure, such as fast railways.

"All countries have such infrastructure. It becomes more economical and efficient," the president stated, adding that the Internal Rate of Return and investment profits had been carefully calculated.

Jokowi added that infrastructure development projects were aimed at attracting investors.

According to the president, the ease of mobility and availability of modes of transportation for goods and people are expected to boost national competitiveness.

The Bakauheni Toll Road connecting to Palembang will be 350 kilometers long, with a section that connects Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar along 148 kilometers, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
