Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya has stated that Indonesia would share the best practices in controlling climate change at the 24th Climate Change Conference (COP) in Poland.

"We are not left behind, we have measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) reference, sporadic mitigation and adaptation practices. We will share this achievement and make it Indonesia`s brand in terms of the climate change agenda," Siti said here Friday.

Indonesia`s practices in climate change agenda, including REDD +, have been applied since 2011. REDD+ are efforts to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and foster conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks.

Indonesia also has indigenous forests management, a unique way of paying public transportation using five plastic bottles, peat restoration, forest and land fires management, and some hotels that do not use plastic.

"Actually, we are very serious. Indonesian people have a lot of innovations, best practices and real efforts," she noted, adding that there are many ways to help Indonesia pursue its emission reduction target.

Siti pointed out that if the land in East Kalimantan province is managed properly in a sustainable manner, then it could hold up to more than 30 million tons of carbon, Siti noted.

And if all the industries in Indonesia have good management, they can suppress carbon up to 300 million tons. "Imagine if all provinces have already started it. We have to gain 28 giga tons of carbon by 2030, now there are only 800 million tons," she noted.

According to Siti, at the COP 24, which will take place in Poland from December 2 to 14, 2018, the Indonesian delegation will stick to the national principles that focus on climate resilience and fairness.

"Our concept will tell a lot," she said, adding that Indonesia keeps paying attention to the attitude of Europe, the United States and other countries. Yet, Siti assured that Indonesia would not affected by other stances because the country has its own national security and mandate.

Siti said the COP 24 in Poland would determine the completion of detailed rules for implementing the Paris Agreement from 2020 to 2030.
