London, Nov 23 (ANTARA News) - An 18-member Indonesian student karate team took home 10 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals from the international karate open held in the Belgian province of Liege at the weekend.

Indonesian Ambassador to Belgium Yuri O. Thamrin said at the medal award ceremony he was proud of the Indonesian students` achievement and hoped they would be always successful.

A total of 18 Indonesian elementary school, junior high school and senior high school students took part in the 3rd Edition of the International Karate Open of the Province of Li?ge held on November 17-18, the first secretary for information, social and cultural affairs of the Indonesian Embassy in Brussels, Ance Maylany told Antara correspondent based in London on Friday.

When the tournament was held for the first time, only eight European countries participated in it. The number increased to 15 in the 3rd edition of the international karate open.

With 22 medals, Indonesia finished fourth after Belgium, The Netherlands and France in the medal tally.

On the occasion, Ambassador Yuri O. Thamrin also met with President of the World Karate Federation Yashar Bashirov, world karate champion Rafa?l Aghaev of Azerbaijan and chief of the event`s organizing committee Thierry Williams. *
