Visitors were surprised upon seeing the President arriving at the Mall at around 1.30pm and immediately sought to approach him to shake hands or have selfies with him.
Flanked by former South Sumatra governor Alex Noerdin President Jokowi checked prices of staple foods including rice and vegetables on the second floor.
"Good, The prices are reasonable while their packaging is attractive," he said.
The retail market sells premium rice at Rp12,600 per kilogram on average while sugar at Rp12,500 per kilogram.
He also considered prices of vegetables still stable. After checking prices Jokowi left the market to continue with his agenda.
Jokowi will seek reelection next year and has picked Islamic figure Ma`ruf Amin as his running mate. He will compete against former army general Prabowo Subianto with young busi essman Sandiaga Uno as his running mate in the election scheduled on April 17.
Prabowo and Sandiaga Uno have so far always claimed that people have suffered due to increasing prices of staple foods.
