Jakarta, Nov 28 (ANTARA News) - Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto expressed belief that most Muslims in Indonesia remain moderate and view Islam as a middle path that benefits the entire universe.

"I am certain that most Muslims in Indonesia are moderate, and they are tired of being politically categorized as radical. However, once again, it is the responsibility of a leader to lead. A leader must teach," Prabowo Subianto noted in a statement here, Wednesday.

The retired general made the statement while speaking at The World 2019 Gala Diner organized by The Economist in Singapore, Tuesday.

He said a leader plays a crucial role in protecting ulemas, or Islamic scholars, and guiding his people, so they will not get lost and become radical.
Subianto expressed concerns over allegations against ulemas being radical.

The founder and chairman of Gerindra Party is optimistic as most prominent Indonesian Muslims had condemned radicalism and promoted Islam as a peaceful religion adopting a middle path.

"I am very optimistic because I notice that several prominent religious figures in Indonesia condemn radicalism in whatever form, and Islam emphasizes this," he stated.

He also believes that a leader has a major role in curbing radicalism in whatever form in Indonesia.

Subianto also said that a leader must provide job opportunities for youngsters, so that their optimism continues to grow.

Subianto paid a visit to Singapore on November 26-27, 2018, with his agenda comprising a meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsein Loon on Nov 26.
